Through Triumphs and Tribulations: LCUP celebrates 85th Founding Anniversary

December 1-9,2022

After decades of breaking barricades and significant undertakings, La Consolacion University Philippines commemorated its historical journey towards holistic education as it celebrates its 85th Founding Anniversary.

From its humble but meaningful beginnings in 1937 as Colegio De Nuestra Señora Del Carmen to presently being the symbol of excellence and resilience bearing the name La Consolacion University Philippines, the university continuously upholds its commitment to deliver quality Augustinian-Marian Education. This celebration is the 85th of many more years to count forward in Transforming Education, Making Difference Through Productivity, Research, Instruction, Sustainability, and Extension.

attle of tactics and fortitude was exhibited by the students of the College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE) through E-Sports Tournament which was the major highlight of the CITE Week. As its tradition, a week-long festivity was held full of line-up of activities spearheaded by the different departments and colleges in the institution, December 1-9, 2022. With the face-to-face participation of Consolanian students who joined LCUP virtually from two previous anniversaries, the celebration became livelier.

The University Week started 1st of December with a Eucharistic Celebration presided in the LCUP Open Stage by Fr. Cornelio Jaranilla, Jr. OCD, University Chaplain followed by the soft blessing of the renovated Kalinangan Auditorium. With the purpose of spreading the news and sharing the joy to the province of Bulacan, a motorcade/caravan roamed the municipalities of Malolos, Plaridel, Guiguinto, Balagtas, and Bulakan. In the evening, a Giant Christmas Tree was lighted alongside an array of Christmas song numbers performed by the Consolanian Music Ministry (CMM) Choir.

After seven years, the University through its Office of the Vice President for Research, Publications, and Linkages (OVP-RPL) and Office of the Vice President for Graduate Studies (OVP-GS) revived its very own International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research Innovations (ICIRI). Continuing the legacy of three previous ICIRIs, the ICIRI 4.0 materialized from December 2 to 4, 2022 carrying the theme "Beyond Boundaries towards Education 4.0: Knowledge Explosion, Strategic Innovations, and Product Creation through International Research Explorations, Partnerships, and Collaborations".

The most awaited and major highlight of the University Week occurred on the day of the Founding Anniversary of LCUP – December 4, 2022. The campus gates were wide open as it welcomes His Eminence Cardinal José Fuerte Advincula, D.D., proclaimed Cardinal by Pope Francis and Metropolitan Archbishop of Manila, accepted by the University President Sr. Editha S. Zerna, OSA, PhD, Superior General Sr. Eden L. Gicana, OSA, Bishop Dennis C. Villarojo, D.D., Rev. Fr. Domingo Salonga, and Hon. Governor Daniel R. Fernando. His Eminence Cardinal Advincula presided the Institutional Foundation Mass at Our Lady of Consolation Chapel concelebrated by Bishop Villarojo D.D., Rev. Fr. Salonga, and other parish priests who graced the Eucharistic Celebration. The mass was proceeded by the Rite of Blessing of the Kalinangan Auditorium wherein a thanksgiving banquet awaits the LCUP Community dressed in Filipiniana.

Celebrating the week with the University, the Basic Education Department launched line-up of activities such as E-Games Tournament, Painting and Craft, Spelling Bee, Cooking Competition, Speech Competitions, Rubik’s Cube and Sudoku Championship, and Field Demonstration. Colleges namely, CITE, CITHM, CBEA, CAMP, COM, and CASE organized activities in line with their niche such as E-Sports Tournament, Kalutong LCUP and Kakanin-Making Contest, Lantern-Making Contest, Medikalinga Medical Mission, and Spoken Word Poetry respectively.

Looking back to the history of LCUP, a Cultural Show entitled “Kaleidoscopic Moonstone” was staged December 6, 2022 depicting LCUP-in-the-Making which featured song and dance performances of LCUP students, administrators, teaching, and non-teaching personnel.

The University Week was concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration and Blessing of the Villa Santa Monica – a newly acquired property of LCUP transformed into mini hotel that is ready to accommodate guests
